How To Retain Your Gorgeous Color

You just visited the salon and had your hair colored to the perfect shade and couldn’t be happier with the results...but how long is it really going to last? The bad news is that many people experience fading after they color their hair, some faster than others, and some to a higher degree. The good news is that there are lots of things you can do and steps you can take to retain that color and keep your locks looking just as gorgeous as when you walked out of the salon for weeks to come! Here are some of our favorite tips and tricks we wanted to share with you!

Wait To Wash

This is one of the most well known ones, and it is still worth repeating! Don’t wash your hair right after a color. Give it a day or two before you suds up and wash away that cash and color! Allowing your hair to rest and keep all those color molecules collected right after a dye job will help you keep your color longer. Anything that lifts the cuticle of your hair and allows the molecules to escape will fade your hair color. Water is the biggest culprit for this!

Shampoo Less Often, And With The Proper Products

Dry shampoo is a savior yet again for many of us! Skip the daily shampooing and start shampooing every few days to make your color last much longer. Use a shower cap every other day or so in the shower to make sure you are still clean and lovely, without watching your color go down the drain. Freshen up your hair on the days you don’t wash your hair with a high quality dry shampoo. When you do shampoo, do your best to only suds up the roots of your hair and don’t saturate your strands with soap.

Make sure that you use color protecting shampoo and conditioner as well if you really want your beautiful color to keep from fading.

Protect From The Elements

When you are out and about, take the time to cover up and protect your hair from harsh elements like dry winter air and cold or the heat and rays of the sun during summer. A silk scarf is a great idea for those looking for an option that is easy on the hair and can still look stylish.
